Dirt is one of the most abundant blocks in the [[Overworld]], found underneath layers of [[Grass|grass block]]s in the majority of biomes. Dirt appears in deposits underground that replaces [[stone]], [[basalt]], [[granite]] and [[limestone]].

[[Farmland]] can turn into dirt if mobs or the player without {{control|sneak|sneaking}} or wearing [[Armor#Leather|leather boots]] step onto farmland or if a block is placed above it or is not within range of [[water]].

[[Dirt path]]s immediately turn into dirt when a block is placed above it, while grass blocks turn into dirt after some time when a block is placed above it.
