Diamonds are used to craft some of the best tools and armor in ''Minecraft''. You may already have found some by mining, but if you haven't, try mining at Y=11. This is one of the best places to mine for diamonds. Be careful about mining under Y=10, because that is where lava pools begin to generate.

Once you find three diamonds, craft a diamond pickaxe. You don't need to smelt your diamonds into ingots, so just put them in the crafting grid like so:{{Crafting table|Diamond|foot=y|RESULT=Diamond Pickaxe|Diamond|Diamond|5=Stick|8=Stick}}

Congratulations, you've crafted the fastest pickaxe in the game! You will be able to mine out large areas of stone significantly faster than with any other tool. This will make it easier to find even more diamonds in the future. Once you've found some more, you can craft diamond variants of your tools and armor.
