Shapeless recipes

The ingredients in a shapeless recipe can be arranged in any way in the crafting grid. Note that this does not mean a pattern can go anywhere in the crafting grid. Below is an animated example of what a shapeless recipe would mean:

Note that the recipe's ingredients do not follow a pattern; they can be placed at any position in the grid independently.

Shaped recipes

Shaped recipes cannot be arranged in any way; they need to follow a pattern in the crafting grid. Note that this does not mean they cannot be repositioned in the grid. Below is an animated example of what a shaped recipe looks like:

Note that, although the recipe can be repositioned, it cannot change its shape, otherwise it will not work.
