Natural generation

Coal ore deposits can generate underground, replacing stone, basalt, limestone and granite. Coal ore can also be found uncovered in caves and mountains.

Mining

Coal can be obtained by mining coal ore with any pickaxe. If mined without a pickaxe, it drops nothing. If mined with a golden pickaxe, it drops itself.
